Human Computer Interaction
This course will give you core knowledge about techniques for building successful user interfaces, approaches for conceiving, refining, and evaluating interfaces that are useful and usable, and techniques for identifying opportunities for computational technology to improve the quality of people’s lives. You will be able to effectively collaborate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of easy-to-use, desirable, and thoughtful interactive systems. You will be prepared to contribute to multi-disciplinary teams that create new interactive products, services, environments, and systems.
User Experience and Interface Design
This course is concerned with the development of user friendly systems with a strong focus on user-centered design and usability principles. You will learn what characteristics of a user interface can make it easy or hard for people to use, and how to design user interfaces that take into account human capabilities and constraints. The emphasis will be on design first (iteratively, on paper or with mock-up software) then code. This course also introduces you to techniques for evaluating the usability of applications and systems. As the practical part of the course you will learn wireframing by using Balsamiq and creating functional prototype by using Axure.
Gamification is concerned with the use of video-game mechanics and elements in nongame contexts to encourage and engage users in the context by making sense of playfulness and fun. The main function of gamification is to induce positive behavior in people, in addition to improving their motivation and engagement in a particular task. This course will teach you the mechanisms of gamification, why it has such tremendous potential, and how to apply in your software applications effectively.
